WESTRIVER LOCK-OUT

Last night there was a candlelight vigil/picket with New England Healthcare Employees Union 1199 at Westriver Healthcare nursing home in Milford. The vigil was attended by Senator Richard Blumenthal, and a number of other state and local political representatives. They have been in contract negotiations since January, and the company basically wants to rewrite the contract. At a glance it seems to be another attempt to break the Union. The company has locked out employees, two weeks before Christmas. Which means...no paycheck and no benefits!

Once again corporate greed is being exposed! Again to the detriment of workers and their families. To lockout workers two weeks before Christmas demonstrates the extreme lack of compassion, and the malicious tactics companies will use to get their way. Not to mention the disruption in consistent care, and comfort provided to the elderly living at the facility. The story has been covered by the CT Post.
